William John Friend from Ramsgate, Kent was born
21-8-1876 & joined the Navy as a boy in 1895.
He transferred to the Coast Guard in 1905 & was awarded his LS&GC in 1909.
These three medals are his complete entitlement as he did not serve afloat during WW1.

He landed in France 5-12-1914 & served in theatre until March of 1916 when he returned to the UK suffering from trench foot. He was discharged to the army reserve in 1919 & went to to serve with the 7th territorial battalion of the HLI
