Mint boxed Pair & Territorial Force War Medal
To- LIEUT.G.MIDDLEMAS (WW1 Pair)
& 2-LIEUT.G.MIDDLEMAS.R.SCOTS (TFWM)
George Middlemas was a resident of Edinburgh & worked in the city as a stationer. He joined the 1st Midlothian R.G.A Volunteers in 1902 & transferred to the R.A.M.C on the formation of the Territorial Force in 1908. He was serving as a senior N.C.O on the outbreak of war & applied for a commission. He was commissioned in to the 14th service battalion of the Royal Scots in May 1915 & went on to be attached to the 12th battalion. He first landed in France 10-1-1916 & was wounded by gun shot to his left thigh in July of the same year. He returned to the UK & was hospitalised in Manchester. He returned to the front in March of 1918 & was severely wounded in the neck. He was taken prisoner of war by the German forces at Meaulte 26-3-1918 & released from captivity 23-11-1918. He passed away 26-11-1967 age 82.
