GVR 1st type WW1 Military Cross (MC)

Andrew Pinkerton from Edgbaston, Birmingham first landed in France 20-7-1915 serving as a Cpl with the Royal Engineers with service number 106250. He went on to be commissioned in to the 2/5th battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment 30-10-1917. Before being transferred to the Royal Engineers. He was awarded the Military Cross for services with Q special company in the London gazette 11-1-1919 with the following citation.
For Conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. This officer in an exposed position under heavy shell fire, prepared and camouflaged gas projector emplacements for an important operation, at the same time bandaging & removing wounded men. The work was successfully completed. Again in the daylight oil projector operations, he was wounded, but stayed out through the evening under direct observations and heavy fire supervising the work. Several projectors were destroyed and electric wires broken by shell fire.
The war office casualty list records him as having been wounded 8-10-1918 & when he applied for the issue of his trio he was living at 89 Gillott Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham.
