George James Taylor was born at Devonport 30-9-95 and was living at working as a cotton weaver in Preston when he enlisted in to the Royal Navy in 1913. He spent most of his WW1 service afloat onboard HMS New Zealand and was discharged to the RFR in 1929. He was recalled for service in WW2 and was onboard HMS Rajputana when it was was sunk by U-Boat 13-4-1941. He was picked up by a Sunderland flying boat and spent the rest of his war at HMS Glendower (Butlins Pwllheli) before his eventual discharge in August 1945 & had been awarded his RFR long service in 1928.
