George Harry Brown from Oldham first landed in France 4-9-1915 serving with the 9th battalion of the Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He transferred to the Tank Corps with service number 304897 and was awarded the MM in the London gazette 16-5-19 with the following citation.
On 27th September 1918 on the occasion of the attack on Flesquires, Private Brown drove his tank in the face of heavy shellfire with conspicuous gallantry & determination, until after reaching the objective his tank was knocked out by a direct hit. Private Brown then established a machine gun post regardless of danger making several journeys under heavy hostile machine gun fire at close range, for guns & ammunition. Throughout the action he displayed conspicuous courage & initiative.
