Walter Thomas Gaisford was commissioned in to the Seaforth Highlanders in 1891 & served with the 1st battalion during the Sudan campaign of 1897-98. He was A.D.C to Major General the Hon R.Talbot 1900 to 1903 & was commanding officer of the 7th Territorial Force battalion on the outbreak of WW1 in August 1914. He was sadly killed in action as the battalions commanding officer whilst leading a charge on the first day of the battle of Loos 25-9-1915. He was 44 years of age at the time of his death & having no known grave he is commemorated on the Loos memorial.
He was posthumously M.I.D in the London gazette 1-1-1916.
The CWGC state he was the late son of Thomas & Lady Gaisford.
VF or better with minor contact marks. Surname spelt as Gainsford on the Queens Sudan & correctly spelt as Gaisford on the Khedives Sudan. The 1911 Delhi Durbar is unnamed as issued.
