Frederick Miller was born in South Shields 8-9-1889 and enlisted in to the Royal Navy 5-9-1907. He served onboard HMS Prosperine in the Persian Gulf 1909-1914 and spent most of his WW1 service at shore bases. He did however spend a year afloat onboard HMS Repulse 1916-1917 & left the service in 1919 to serve with the Merchant navy for two years. He rejoined in 1922 & was pensioned to shore in 1932. He was recalled for service in September 1939 but was found unfit for military service due to ill health. Due to his breaks in service he is not entitled to any form of long service medal & he did not serve afloat prior to 1916 & as such he is not entitled to the 1914-15 Star.
GVF & mounted as originally worn. Complete with original Merchant Navy certificate of service, Royal Navy I.D card & a large selection of original letters & references with regards to the recipients military service. Along with copy service papers & other basic research details
