Robert Hamilton McClure was born March 1881 & was commissioned in to the Seaforth Highlanders in August 1899. He embarked for South Africa in October 1899 and was killed in action at the battle of Paardeberg 18-2-1900. He succeeded in crossing the river but lost his life in the fighting on the other side. Earl Roberts makes mention of his death in his despatch from Paardeberg 28-2-1900 & the recipient was M.I.D for his services in the London gazette 8-2-1901. One of only four Seaforth Highlanders officers to be killed in action at Paardeberg.
The medal is NEF/EF & is engraved in the correct style for officers of this regiment. Complete with copy images of the recipient & casualty roll details.
