William Mathison enlisted in to the 16th service battalion of the Royal Scots / McRae's battalion in Edinburgh. Whilst living in Innerleithen, Peebleshire. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 28-4-1917 and having no known grave he is commemorated on the Arras memorial. He was 24 years of age at the time of his death & is recorded by the CWGC as the late son of Thomas & Agnes Mathison of 2 Chambers street, Innerleithen.
