WW1 MILITARY MEDAL & PAIR WITH MEMORIAL CROSS, 78th CANADIAN INFANTRY, K.I.A F&F 10-8-1918, FROM PENRITH, MM AWARDED FOR A TRENCH RAID ON SOUCHEZ 22-2-1917, WITH CITATION
WW1 Military Medal (MM) & pair with the recipients Canadian Memorial cross in its original case of issue.
To- 148605.PTE.W.G.CLARKE.78-CAN.INF.
The recipient was awarded the Military Medal in the London gazette 26-4-1917 & was awarded for services in France & Flanders. He was sadly killed in action in France & Flanders 10-8-1918 serving with the 78th battalion of the Canadian Infantry & is buried in Caix British cemetery.
The CWGC states that he was the late son of H.Blackwell Clarke & Sarah Clarke of 34 Brunswick Square Penrith, Cumberland.
The citation for the recipients MM states
For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty, during a successful raid on the enemy's trenches near Souchez on 22nd Feb 1917. When telephone communications between the advanced HQ & the battalion HQ had broken down, this lad & another, who were acting as runners. Promptly delivered messages at their destination. Passing through heavily shelled areas, In doing so. After delivering their messages they immediately returned to the advanced HQ again passing through heavy shelling.
The medals are EF/MINT & the pair are in the original box of issue & the memorial cross is in its original case of issue.
Complete with the recipients original red dog tag, forwarding letter for the memorial cross. Along with copy details from the CWGC ,London gazette & MM citation details.
