James Simons was born in Acton, Middlesex 25-5-79 & enlisted in to the Royal Marines in London 22-11-1897. He served onboard HMS Monarch from 2-5-1898 through to 10-5-1900. He was wounded at Graspan 25-11-1899 when he received a shell splinter to the left foot. He then went on to serve onboard HMS Duke of Wellington until he was discharged in October 1901 as his services were no longer required & he was imprisoned in a civil jail.
