Alexander Malcom from Dundee served with the 2nd battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in India 1935 to 1937 & was discharged to the army reserve in 1938. He was recalled from the reserve on the outbreak of war in 1939 & went on to serve with the R.A.S.C who added the T-prefix to his service number which became T-2753338. He was captured by the Japanese at the fall of Singapore 15-2-1942 & was sadly killed as a result of an ariel bombing raid on his P.O.W camp 7-9-1944. He was mortally wounded by shell splinters to his chest & died the same day. He was 32 years of age at the time of his death & is buried in Kanchanaburi war cemetery at the side of the bridge of the river Kwai. I have no doubt that he had endured hard service on the Burma railway?. The CWGC state that he was the late 32 year old son of Andrew Fife Malcolm & Jane Malcolm of Dundee.
