Cecil Leonard Ferard was commissioned in to the R.F.A 8-12-1914 & was a former cadet of the O.T.C. He first landed in France 17-9-1915 serving with the 114th brigade of the Royal Field Artillery & was M.I.D for services in France in the London gazette 6-12-1916. This was followed by the award of the Military Cross in the London gazette 4-6-1917 & a second M.I.D also for services in France in the London gazette 21-7-1917 & at some point during in WW1 he was attached to the Nigeria regiment. He remained with the colours post WW1 & served with the Royal Artillery Survey section in India including campaign service on the North West Frontier 1930-31. He was awarded the coronation medal in 1937 as a Major commanding the N.W.Ports. R.A. His family was part of the British Nobility & his wife was Marjorie Hawksworth-Smyth. They married in December 1925.His Brother was KIA serving in WW1 with the Devonshire regiment & both brothers were old boys of Winchester college & the sons of Henry Cecil Ferard C.S.I, C.I.E & Ida Margaret Ferard of 22 Bardwell Road, Oxford.
