Reginald Walter Chapman was one of the original members of the 17th service battalion of the Manchester Regiment / 2nd Manchester pals. He served with B- Company No- VII platoon & first landed i France 7-11-1915. He served in France until 14-7-1916 & is recorded in the official casualty roll as having been wounded & this list was published 15-8-1916. As he was back in the UK by 15-7-1916 it is safe to assume he was wounded early on in the Somme offensive? He transferred to the RAF with service number 129356 & returned to France for a second spell of service between 31-3-1918 & 27-2-1919. He was discharged to the reserve in April 1919 & his RAF service papers state he was a shipping clerk on enlistment.
