James.A.Martindale from Windermere enlisted in to the 11th service battalion of the Border Regiment / The Lonsdale battalion in September 1914 & first landed in France with the battalion 23-11-1915. He was wounded in the buttock on the first day of the Somme 1-7-1916 & went on to be discharged with a silver war badge in 1917 due to these wounds.
