Montague Levy Tebbitt lived at 29 Kings Gardens, West Hamspstead & he enlisted in to the H.A.C artillery with his brother Arthur in 1914. He first landed in Egypt 10-4-1915 with service number 364 serving with the H.A.C Artillery. He was commissioned in to the Royal Field Artillery 1-9-1916 & went on to be awarded the Military Cross in the London gazette 19--11-1917 with the following citation, For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty. With another officer he acted as advance intelligence officer to the brigade. He established communications and was successful in keeping in touch with batteries during the operations. He also sent back valuable information. Through his gallantry & determination under heavy shell fire & very trying conditions. Communications were kept up.
He applied for his medals in 1925 whilst living at 12 Bell street, Edgeware road, London. He was a member of the Jewish faith & is listed in the British Jewery book of honour 1914-1918 & his MC citation is also listed in the same book.
His middle name is sometimes listed as Levy & as Ley on other occasions.
