Walter Bodman from St.Lukes first landed in France 21-12-1915 as a L-Cpl with the 2nd Dragoon Guards / Queen's Bays. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) in the London gazette 30-10-1918 for his gallantry at Harbonnieres 8-8-1918 with the following citation.
For conspicuous gallantry with a patrol. He penetrated behind the enemy line and entered a village, capturing many prisoners. Although under heavy machine-gun fire from the flanks practically the whole time, he pushed forward, using his sword, and obtained much valuable information. He did very fine work.
