Phillip Kitchener Cockfield died of wounds 5-6-1942 serving with the 2nd battalion of the H.L.I in the Western desert & Having no known grave he is commemorated on the Alamein memorial. He was 26 years of age at the time of his death & the C.W.G.C state that he was the late son of John & Rose Ann Cockfield of Darlington, County Durham.
The group comes complete with the original memorial scroll, Buckingham palace condolence letter, a Christmas card sent by the recipient from Palestine, 2x postcard type portrait photographs of the recipient in uniform & 20 assorted small snap shot type photographs taken by the recipient on active service in the inter-war period.
The medals are EF/MINT & come complete with medal roll details & CWGC details. Along with WW2 casualty roll details & other associated original family related documents & paperwork. The paperwork is clean & tidy but the scroll has been neatly rolled up & is not in the original postal envelope.
The recipient would be entitled to the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star & 1939-45 War medal but sadly I doubt that his N.O.K ever applied for them?
