Charles Holmes enlisted in to the Manchester regiment at Ashton under Lyne 4-10-1902 age 14. He first landed in France with the 1st battalion 27-8-1914 & went on to transfer to the 1st garrison battalion of the Liverpool regiment with service number 28870. He was discharged with a silver war badge on termination of engagement 30-11-15 age 28.The recipient is entitled to the August to November clasp for the ribbon of his 1914 star but this is missing from the group. It is however confirmed on the recipients MIC & medal roll.
