William Farr from Shrewsbury in Shropshire enlisted into the 2nd battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers 12-9-1890 age 18.He served with the regiment in the East Indies 1891 to 1899 & then in October 1899 went with the regiment to serve in the Boer War in South Africa.He was awarded the D.C.M for services at Pieters Hill 27-2-1900 & this was published in the London gazette 19-4-1901. He had previously been mentioned in despatches in the London Gazette dated 8-2-1901.He returned to the UK in July 1902 & left the army after 12 years service in September of 1902.
