Joseph Dowas was one of the original members of the 17th service battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment. This battalion was raised in Leeds as the second service battalion from the city & was a bantam battalion with the secondary title of the Leeds Bantams. He later went on to serve with the Labour Corps with service number 115231 & finished his war as a member of the corps of Dragoons with service number D-37578. He was wounded in 1918 & discharged to the class Z army reserve 19-2-1919. He must of almost immediately re-enlisted in to the 3rd Dragoon Guards / Carabiniers as he was awarded the LS&GC in army order 198 of 1935.
The group is mounted as worn & at this stage I have not been able to confirm the recipients 1937 Coronation medal. However I suspect it may of been issued from the India list which is only available on the shelf at the India office library.
